Talbot set for Spireites return

Drew Talbot could return to the Chesterfield squad for the first leg of the League One play-off semi-final against Preston.

Talbot has been out for just over three weeks with a hamstring injury. The full-back joined in training on Wednesday and Blues boss Paul Cook will make a late decision about whether he is included on the bench against the Lilywhites.

Back-up goalkeeper Aaron Chapman (ankle) may also be fit enough to take his place among the substitutes, with Chesterfield not having cover for Tommy Lee for both of their final two matches of the regular season against Bristol City and Sheffield United.

Cook could name an unchanged starting line up following Sunday's 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane, although pacy winger Gboly Ariyibi will be pushing for a recall.

Preston have asked Aston Villa about extending Callum Robinson's loan for the play-offs.

The forward is back at his parent club at the conclusion of the season but North End's failure to secure automatic promotion on the final day means he is still wanted at Deepdale.

Lilywhites boss Simon Grayson confirmed fellow loanees Sam Johnstone, Paul Gallagher and Jermaine Beckford can all feature, though.

Despite defeat at Colchester on Sunday, Grayson is likely to largely stick with the side who were unbeaten in 18 games prior to the U's loss.
