Doyle returning for Spireites

Chesterfield have players returning in time for the Boxing Day visit of Peterborough - including leading scorer Eoin Doyle.

A hamstring injury meant that Doyle was only fit enough to be named as a substitute at Gillingham last Saturday, but the 19-goal striker has trained properly this week and is expected to be back in the Spireites' starting line-up.

Forward Dan Gardner has resumed training after a knee problem and looks likely to be back in the squad, while full-back Drew Talbot could make his long-awaited return from a groin injury with a place on the bench.

Left-back Dan Jones comes back into the reckoning after serving a three-match ban and Blues boss Paul Cook has Ollie Banks available after recalling the midfielder from his loan spell at Northampton. However, Sam Morsy is still suspended.

Defenders Kgosi Ntlhe (knee) and Gabriel Zakuani are doubts for Peterborough after sustaining knocks during the home defeat to Preston last weekend.

Of the two, Ntlhe is the biggest cause for concern and Michael Smith standing by to fill in at left-back should the South African miss out.

Posh will once again check on Marcus Maddison, who is still struggling with an ankle injury, but fellow forward Jon Taylor and defender Jack Baldwin both remain sidelined by knee problems.

Midfielder Joe Newell, sent off the last time the two teams met in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley in March, is available again after serving a one-match ban but on-loan striker Craig Mackail-Smith has been recalled by his parent club Brighton.
