Bennett added to Spireites squad

Mason Bennett will be in the Chesterfield squad when the Sky Bet League Two leaders host fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford.

Bennett has joined the Spireites on a loan deal from Derby but Blues boss Paul Cook has said the teenage striker will start on the bench on Saturday along with fellow recent arrival Daniel Kearns, who made his debut as a second-half substitute during the 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night following his arrival from Peterborough earlier that day.

Dan Gardner's ankle injury is not as bad as the club initially feared and the forward may be back in action in just two or three weeks.

A similar timescale could apply to right-back Drew Talbot who is recovering from surgery to cure an abductor problem.

Oxford will be without experienced striker Dave Kitson again.

The former Reading forward limped off 30 minutes into Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Burton with a hamstring injury and caretaker boss Mickey Lewis had to manage without the 34-year-old for Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Cheltenham.

His absence means David Connolly looks set to start upfront once more while Danny Rose and Nicky Wroe will hope to return to the starting line-up having dropped to the bench in midweek.

Midfielder Jon Meades, yet to feature since his summer arrival due to injury, could be involved but is unlikely to start having picked up some valuable game time in a friendly with Oxford University on Thursday, a match he opened the scoring in before adding a second.
