Fitness problems for Chesterfield ahead of Northampton clash

Chesterfield will check on the fitness of a handful of players ahead of Northampton's visit to the Proact Stadium.

Leading scorer Ched Evans has a heel problem while on-loan forward Conor Wilkinson and defender Sam Hird both have groin issues.

Midfielder Jon Nolan and centre-half Ian Evatt both missed last weekend's goalless draw at Oldham and will also be monitored.

Goalkeeper Tommy Lee (shoulder) and defender Liam O'Neil are back in the early stages of training with the rest of the squad following injuries but left-back Dan Jones (foot) and midfielder Angel Martinez (knee) remain some way from a return.

Cobblers boss Rob Page could name an unchanged line-up for the third match in a row.

Page, a former Chesterfield defender, has a fully-fit squad to choose from following no midweek fixture and no injuries sustained in training during the week.

Northampton remain unbeaten in Sky Bet League One after seven matches and the Welshman has hinted he is unlikely to alter his starting line-up.

That means Marc Richards, John-Joe O'Toole, Sam Hoskins and Gabriel Zakuani will have to settle for a place on the bench once again.
