Chesterfield face defensive crisis for Crewe clash

Attack is going to be the best form of defence for Chesterfield boss Jack Lester at home to Crewe.

His men were beaten 5-1 at Stevenage on Saturday and are low on numbers at the back.

Sam Hird made his return from a hamstring problem at Stevenage and will be better for a run, but Robbie Weir has been ill and is a doubt.

Brad Barry's hamstring has kept him sidelined and Lester said: "We've got a home game and will attack anyway."

Crewe boss Dave Artell wants a reaction from his players and changes could come as a result.

They lost 3-0 at home to Swindon and he had his men locked in the dressing room for over an hour.

"We needed an honest frank discussion about how we go forward," said Artell.

George Ray (back), James Jones (pelvis) and Ryan Wintle (fractured tibia) are not due back until the new year.
