Two new faces in Chesterfield squad for Crewe clash

Chesterfield will have new signings Jordan Slew and Declan John available for the visit of relegation rivals Crewe.

Striker Slew was a free agent and has joined the Spireites on a deal until the end of the season while John's arrival on loan from Cardiff strengthens manager Danny Wilson's defensive options.

Gary Liddle was sent off during the draw at Colchester in midweek but Chesterfield are hoping to get the midfielder's red card overturned on appeal.

Defenders Liam O'Neil (neck), Charlie Raglan (hernia) and Ian Evatt (Achilles) and midfielder Angel Martinez (knee) remain out injured as the Spireites look for a first win in six League One matches.

Crewe's injury problems are mounting following news of Ryan Seager's return to Southampton.

The 20-year-old suffered a serious knee injury during the 2-2 draw at Rochdale in midweek and the on-loan striker is back at his parent club, facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

With forwards Lauri Dalla Valle (ankle) and George Cooper (thigh) also ruled out, Seager's absence leaves the Alex short of firepower and boss Steve Davis is looking at bringing another striker in on loan.

Davis will hope central defensive pair Harry Davis (knee) and George Ray (ankle) are able to return against Barnsley next weekend as Semi Ajayi's loan spell ends after Saturday's game at the Proact Stadium. Billy Bingham and Ryan Wintle remain out.
