Spireites snap winless streak by beating Crewe

Chesterfield won for the first time in six matches when they beat fellow strugglers Crewe 3-1 at the Proact Stadium.

Crewe were unbeaten in six but goals from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Lee Novak and Connor Dimaio sealed victory for Chesterfield despite a reply from Zoumana Bakayogo.

Crewe conceded two early goals at Rochdale in midweek and they were two down inside the first 12 minutes as Ebanks-Blake and Novak punished poor defending.

Both goals came from crosses from the right with Ebanks-Blake beating Ben Garratt with a mishit shot that went in off both posts in the seventh minute before Novak side-footed Gboly Ariyibi's cross in from six yards five minutes later.

Callum Saunders, son of former Chesterfield manager Dean, shot wide but Crewe scored in the 27th minute when Brad Inman cut the ball back for Bakayogo to finish from 10 yards.

Chesterfield restored their two-goal cushion in the 56th minute when Dimaio fired a shot across Ben Garratt after a one-two with Ebanks-Blake and that was enough to ensure three crucial points.
