Chesterfield return to winning ways at home

Chesterfield won at home for the first time since the opening day of the season as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Proact Stadium to halt Southend's surge up the table.

Lee Novak gave the home side an early lead before Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored in each half to give Chesterfield a second win in four days.

Southend had won five of their previous six games but they went behind in the eighth minute when Novak raced through the middle and slide the ball past Dan Bentley.

The visitors looked vulnerable every time Chesterfield attacked and after Ian Evatt headed against a post, Ebanks-Blake scored a second in the 38th minute after Dan Gardner's shot had been blocked.

Southend had a chance to get back in the game in the 49th minute but Tommy Lee came off his line to deny Joe Pigott and Chesterfield made the game safe in the 62nd minute when Ebanks-Blake forced the ball over the line from a corner.
