Doyle double does for Dale

Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle celebrated his new contract with two penalties to give his side a convincing 2-1 victory over Rochdale at the Proact Stadium.

Doyle scored in each half to take his tally to four in three games as Chesterfield dominated Rochdale, who had goalkeeper Josh Lillis stretchered off on the hour-mark, while Ian Henderson converted from the spot in stoppage time.

Chesterfield had a chance in the fifth minute when Doyle got in on the right, but his lob hit the top of the crossbar and went behind and the striker rattled a post four minutes later with a shot from 15 yards.

Jay O'Shea's 25-yard shot was turned behind by Lillis in the 29th minute, but Chesterfield went in front 10 minutes later when Doyle scored from the spot after O'Shea had been tripped by Joe Rafferty just inside the area.

Chesterfield went close again when Sam Morsy hit a post from 20 yards.

Dale had to bring on Jon Diba Musangu for the injured Lillis in the 60th minute and the 16-year old was lucky to escape with a booking when he handled outside his area before he was beaten by Doyle, again from the spot after Rhys Bennett had tripped the striker.

Henderson converted the game's third penalty in the ninth minute of added time after Ian Evatt had handled, but it was too late for the visitors.
