Coventry happy as Maddison grabs late leveller

Lee Novak scored Chesterfield's first Sky Bet League One goal in more than eight hours but a superb late free-kick from James Maddison earned Coventry a 1-1 draw at the Proact Stadium.

Novak's glancing header gave new manager Danny Wilson a great start in his first game in charge but Maddison deservedly levelled a minute from the end of normal time.

Chesterfield suffered a setback when centre back Ian Evatt was takenin the 22nd minute, but their goal drought ended when Novak headed Jay O'Shea's free-kick into the top left corner.

Coventry created little until first-half stoppage time when Tommy Lee did well to keep out a shot from Ryan Kent.

Although the visitors dominated from the start of the second half, Chesterfield went close to scoring again when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake clipped the bar in the 67th minute.

Coventry boss Tony Mowbray was sent to the stands for arguing with referee Paul Tierney but his side levelled in the 89th minute when Maddison curled a brilliant free-kick into Lee's top right corner.
