Burton Albion 3-1 Chesterfield: Report

27 November 2010 21:31
Spireites crash out at Burton Burton made it through to the third round of the FA Cup for only the fourth time in their history after overcoming League Two high-fliers Chesterfield 3-1. Paul Peschisolido's side struck twice in a 10-minute spell in the first half to repeat their league win at the b2net Stadium two weeks ago. Aaron Webster gave Burton the lead with a left-foot from just inside the box after turning onto a John McGrath free-kick in the 12th minute. Home goalkeeper Adam Legzdins made an excellent save to deny Jack Lester the equaliser before Russell Penn's defence-splitting pass gave Jacques Maghoma the chance to fire Burton further ahead in the 22nd minute and he made no mistake. Chesterfield suffered another blow when they lost top scorer Craig Davies with a hamstring injury early in the second half. Burton could have a third in the 59th minute but Webster's looping shot was saved by Tommy Lee, who was then tested by angled drive from James Collins as the hosts broke dangerously. Chesterfield pulled a goal back in the 90th minute when substitute Jordan Bowery fired home after a Lester shot had rebounded to him, but Collins broke away to seal Burton's victory with a curling right-foot in the fourth minute of added time.
