Debutant Bennett delivers for Bees

A debut goal from Dale Bennett helped Brentford end their home hoodoo with a 2-1 win over struggling Chesterfield.

The Watford loanee powered home a header eight minutes from time to add to Sam Saunders' opener midway through the first half.

Saunders curled a beauty up and over the wall from the edge of the box after Niall McGinn had been bundled over in the 25th minute.

The Spireites levelled just two minutes later when the Bees' defence failed to clear and Leon Clarke hammered home the loose ball from close range.

Brentford squandered a hatful of chances with the luckless Clayton Donaldson the main culprit.

But Bennett rose highest in the box to snatch the winner and end the Londoners' winless run that stretched back to August 20.

Brentford's Jonathan Douglas was denied on the hour-mark when his rasping drive was saved by Greg Fleming and McGinn's one-on-one was also blocked by the goalkeeper.

Clarke might have put his side ahead just before the home side's winner, but volleyed wide, while Alexander also saw a volley flash just wide in injury time.
