Boden saves Spireites

Scott Boden scored an injury-time equaliser to help Chesterfield avoid only their second league defeat of the season and keep a two point lead at the top of the table after a 2-2 draw at Accrington. The Spireites had looked down and out with 88 minutes gone when sub Deane Smalley appeared to have got just a consolation for John Sheridan's side, forcing the ball home while the Reds defence appealed for off-side. But then, with just seconds left, Drew Talbot played a ball into the box and Boden beat the off-side trap to fire beyond Ian Dunbavin. It was harsh on Stanley who opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Ian Craney sent Sean McConville into the area and his shot was pushed out by goalkeeper Tommy Lee back into the midfielder's path and he forced the ball home. Despite then having possession the visitors never tested Reds keeper Dunbavin and they were made to pay when Stanley scored a second in the 24th minute. Craney, on loan from Fleetwood in what could be his last game for the Reds, broke down the right and played in the perfect cross for Terry Gornell to fire home from six yards out for his seventh goal of the season. Stanley then took control and Craney had two chances to add to the score before the break as the league leaders looked out of sorts. Chesterfield boss John Sheridan made three substitutions in the second half and his side huffed and puffed before two goals in the last four minutes salvaged a point.
