Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland has handed a trial to the veteran striker Carl Asaba. The 33-year-old is without a club after spending last season with Millwall but has a wealth of experience in a 12-year professional career. He has scored over 100 League goals for his seven clubs and was once the subject of an £800,000 transfer when he moved from Brentford to Reading in 1997. "His agent phoned us and asked if he could train with us as he still lives in Sheffield," McFarland told the Spireites' official website. "He's been on trial at a number of clubs and nothing's happened with them, so he's training with us which will keep him fit and we can have a good look at him."
