Neil Young is close to securing the services of three big signings. Young told the Chester Chroncle today that the three signings could well form the spine of his team but would not divulge any names until they are 100% signed and sealed. One is reported to be a striker with Football League and Conference experience, while the other two - a central defender and a midfielder - are high quality UniBond League players. Nine players have signed on the dotted line at the Deva so far, with Anthony Sheehan's capture yesterday following in the wake of the earlier signing's of goalkeeper Richie Whiteside, defender's Stuart Graves and Danny Meadowcroft, midfielder's Mark Connolly, Richie Foulkes, Dan Mahoney, Greg Stones and striker Rob Hopley. Young is aiming to build up a final squad of about 20, featuring 16 senior players and four youngsters. He hopes to have reached the 16-mark in the next 10 days or so and admits that finding two quality wide players will be his biggest challenge. “We’re not struggling but we’re a little bit short of options in that department,” said the new Deva boss. The players begin pre-season training on Tuesday, June 22 – when they will be ‘broken in’ with the first in a series of long, lung-busting runs.
