Vaughan's Chester quit threat

Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan has hinted that he could be ready to walk out on the club following the poor start to their League Two season.

City, who were rattled by the shock departure of boss Mark Wright on the eve of the new season, have managed to claim just one point from the first three games under caretaker boss Ray Mathias and suffered a 3-0 defeat against Mansfield at the Saunders Honda Stadium on Saturday.

Vaughan is fed up of taking the criticism for the less than convincing start to the campaign and his days at the club could be numbered.

He told the club's official website: "The (manager's) job is up for applicants and the right appointment will be made but I'm considering my own position at this moment.

"I'm not prepared to take the blame for something that I had nothing to do with.

"The performance was an absolute disgrace. I don't care how we play as long as we win the three points.

"It's not about Ray Mathias' position, it's about Mark Wright walking out on the job. The players are his and they were a shambles.

"The money I've spent is an embarrassment to me and at the moment I'm not prepared to put in another penny."
