Vaughan: I had to act

Vaughan: I had to act

Chester City owner Stephen Vaughan insists he had no alternative than to axe boss Bobby Williamson.

City have slumped down the League Two table since Christmas, securing only five points from their last 14 matches.

Vaughan said: "It was inevitable. We were running out of games and the club had to act. We've won three games in 21. We've won once this year. I've tried my best to let it work for him but it just wasn't to be.

"I've backed Bobby all the way and Bobby knows very well that it was a hard decision to make. But it was a decision that we've got to make that puts the club first.

"We've had to make the change and give someone else the opportunity to keep us in the division.

"I'm looking for a local man now, and somebody who's just got to do what's required at this football club - and that's win matches."
