Free-falling Chester City parted company with manager Bobby Williamson after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at MK Dons.
The League Two club have endured a dismal run of form with the weekend result extending their wretched sequence to one victory in their last 14 matches.
The 46-year-old former Kilmarnock, Hibernian and Plymouth Argyle manager took charge at the Deva Stadium last May and presided over a promising start to the campaign.
Simon Davies has been placed in caretaker charge for Tuesday's game at promotion-chasing Darlington.
