    Sandwith back in Blues fold

    22 Jan 2008 - 14:55:15

Chester City boss Bobby Williamson has challenged Kevin Sandwith to retain his first-team spot and secure a new contract with the Blues.

The 29-year-old had been told he could move on by Williamson, but was handed a recall for the 1-0 defeat at Notts County at the weekend.

Williamson told the Chester Chronicle: "I spoke to him before the window opened.

"We had a discussion and felt it would be best if he was on the list so he could maybe get first-team football elsewhere, but the guy's a good pro.

"He's worked hard and has deserved a place in the team and he got it. Hopefully he can go on and earn himself a contract."

Sandwith joined City in the summer of 2006, following spells with Macclesfield Town, Lincoln City, Halifax Town, Doncaster Rovers, Telford United and Carlisle United.
