Murphy fires Blues warning

Chester City striker John Murphy has warned his team-mates to focus on the job in hand, as they bid to avoid a potential relegation battle.

The Blues started the League Two campaign in fine style, but have plummeted down to 19th place on the back of a run of just one win in 18 league games, a collapse which cost boss Bobby Williamson his job.

City are only seven points above the drop zone and face four of the top five teams in the division in the coming weeks.

Murphy told the Evening Leader: "We can't rely on the bottom clubs in the league helping us by losing their games. We have to do our own job and pick up the points we need.

"It's now time to get on with the job in hand because I don't like to think where we were earlier in the season.

"It's scary when you look back and think that we could have gone to the top of the league table if we'd won our home game against Hereford United.

"I suppose we should be grateful that we won as many points as we did earlier in the season, otherwise we could now be in real trouble."
