Chester stick with squad
30 Jan 2009 - 11:20:38
Chester City have been forced to play out the rest of the league season without making any new signings due to a transfer embargo.
An embargo has been placed on the club which restricts any transfer activity. This ruling is due to the club's overspending on players' wages and attempts to lift the ban have been fruitless.
Manager Mark Wright had hoped to free up some space on the Deva Stadium wage bill to allow the club to move to sign new players.
However, with the inability to ship out some unwanted staff, owner Stephen Vaughan has confirmed that he and Wright have agreed to go with what they've got for the current campaign.
Vaughan told the Chester Chronicle: "We have reviewed our playing resources and agreed that we will persevere with our current squad until the end of the season.
"The only exception may be Eddie Johnson, who is having talks, with our blessing, with Austin Aztecs.
"I can categorically reassure all our supporters that Kevin Ellison and Ryan Lowe will be staying with us, despite interest and financial offers from other clubs recently."
Chester's drop in attendances have contributed to the prohibition of transfers, as Chester have averaged a mere 1,926 this season, the third lowest in League Two.
