Blues miss out on Holmes

Chester City have been rebuffed in their bid to sign Carlisle United striker Derek Holmes on loan.

The 28-year-old has scored just four goals for the Cumbrians this term and City had been linked with an approach for a permanent deal for Holmes, before trying their luck with a loan swoop.

However, Carlisle boss Neil McDonald told his club's official website: "At this moment in time Derek is part of our plans so, until that changes, we will be keeping him here with us."

Holmes has netted 17 goals in 95 appearances for Carlisle since his arrival from Bournemouth two years ago and is under contract at Brunton Park until the end of next season.
