Goals in each half from Matt Phillips and Jon Paul-Pittman sealed Wanderers' victory while condemning Chester to a 13th game without a win.
Chester had the best of the early exchanges but Wycombe keeper Jamie Young was equal to skipper Paul Linwood's header.
Seven-goal midfielder Kevin Ellison then wasted a great opportunity to level things up before the break and top scorer Ryan Lowe missed a chance before the hosts put the game beyond doubt with a second goal.
"I thought we were hard done by to be honest," said Wright. "Certainly in the first half we could have been two to three goals to the good and (Wycombe manager) Peter Taylor said that to me as we were coming off.
"We had the best chances in the first half and we could have had something to hold on to at half-time if we had converted any of them."
