Ward makes Wilson swoop

Cheltenham Town boss John Ward has made his first signing since taking charge at Whaddon Road, with Stoke City right-back Brian Wilson arriving on a month's loan.

The 20-year-old has featured just one for the Potters this season and Ward is delighted to offer him the chance to build on his first-team experience.

"I've seen Brian play a number of times in the last 18 months and he has impressed me with his athleticism and touch on the ball," he told the club's official website.

"He is a young boy who needs an opportunity and I am willing to offer him that.

"His arrival will strengthen the squad and I don't want players to think they are necessarily going to miss out because of it.

"It will provide a bit of competition for places, which is always a good thing."

Wilson goes straight into the Robins squad for Saturday's game with Doncaster Rovers, but Stoke have not given him permission to play in the FA Cup third round clash with Fulham.
