Former Cheltenham Town boss John Ward has admitted it was a difficult decision to leave Whaddon Road for Carlisle United.
Ward quit the Robins in the aftermath of Tuesday's 3-0 defeat by Port Vale to take the reins at their League One rivals and revealed his decision had been taken with a heavy heart.
"I told the players what was happening and that was very difficult for me, especially when they had just been beaten 3-0," he said.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my four years at Cheltenham and I am very proud of the players and supporters. I've had a great time.
"Carlisle did show an interest in me around 18 months ago but we had just won promotion and it did not interest me at that time.
"But things change in life and people's perspectives change. Things happen and you have to make decisions."
Meanwhile, Town chairman Paul Baker has revealed that caretaker manager Keith Downing will have money available to bring in loan signings.
"The board recognised the urgent need to strengthen the squad during this difficult period and we have made funds available to Keith for him to bring in some emergency loan signings," he revealed.
