Townsend pens Town deal

Cheltenham Town have handed promising defender Michael Townsend a new three-year contract.

The 21-year-old joined the Robins from Wolves two-and-a-half years ago and has made himself a fixture in the first team during recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Town boss John Ward has revealed he is on the lookout for some new players to strengthen his squad.

"The priority is not just to stay in League One, it's to be good in League One and I want to be mid-table and finish higher than we did last year," he told the Gloucestershire Echo.

"We need the help of two or three more players and any new players need to be coming into the first team.

"They need to be players we know about, who have a good track record."
