Cheltenham Town have been rocked by the news that central defender Gavin Caines will miss the start of the season after suffering a knee injury.
The 23-year-old slipped and twisted his knee during pre-season training and will require surgery.
"Gavin has seen a specialist and had some X-rays," club physiotherapist Ian Weston told the Robins' official website.
"The symptoms are pretty conclusive even without a scan, so he's been pencilled in for an arthroscopy next week.
"It appears that he has a slight tear to a lateral cartilage and he will be out of action for six weeks following the operation."
