Robins cool Melligan rumours

Cheltenham Town boss Keith Downing his played down rumours linking winger JJ Melligan with a return to Whaddon Road.

The 26-year-old Irishman only left the Robins a year ago, but failed to make his mark with Leyton Orient and has been placed on the transfer list at Brisbane Road.

However, a cautious Downing told the Gloucestershire Echo: "JJ is one of many players who will be on a list of available players coming out this summer.

"I want to sort my own camp out first and I am not going to panic into new signings early on."

Meanwhile, Downing is preparing himself to field bids for striker Steven Gillespie, who scored 16 goals in the season just ended.

He told the club's official website: "I would expect some interest in Steven, but we have worked hard to secure players on longer contracts.

"He has two years of his to run, so we would want a substantial fee."
