New Robins deal for Wright

Veteran former Aston Villa left-back Alan Wright has signed a new one-year contract with Cheltenham Town.

The 36-year-old, who made 36 appearances for the Robins last term, is the sixth of the club's out-of-contract players to agree a new Whaddon Road deal, leaving only Ashley Vincent to commit his future to Keith Downing's side.

Downing told Town's official website: "Alan had a massive influence on us last year, not just as a player, but also in terms of his vast experience in the game.

"If we're going to become established at League One level then people like Alan Wright are very much going to be part of it. This is a very positive move for the football club and I'm sure many people will be pleased with it."

Meanwhile, Downing has placed the former Scunthorpe United left-back Lee Ridley on the transfer list.
