Elliott set to get chop

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates is unlikely to sign Steve Elliott this summer despite the former Bristol Rovers defender joining the club for pre-season training. The 32-year-old, who was released by Rovers at the end of last season, will have to look elsewhere for a new club as his wage demands are believed to be too high for the League Two side. But Yates is closing in on another unnamed target as he looks to bolster his squad further ahead of the npower 2010/11 League Two campaign."Steve is a little bit behind and Monday was his first day of pre-season training," Yates told the Gloucestershire Echo. "There has been something on the table all summer for Steve and money wise we haven't been there. I am happy for him to come in and see what happens, but I am going elsewhere now."On other targets, Yates added: "I am hoping to have something sorted in next couple of days. The boy has been training with his club, he is desperate to come here and I am convinced he is the right one for us."He is young, strong, athletic, a decent footballer, good in the air and exactly what we want."
