Yates wanted Pitman

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates has revealed he tried to sign Hereford counterpart Jamie Pitman during his days as Kidderminster boss as he prepares for Saturday`s derby clash at Edgar Street. Pitman has been in caretaker charge of the Bulls since Simon Davey was sacked at the start of October, guiding the club to a six-game unbeaten run having been promoted from club physio. The 34-year-old, who swapped the pitch for the treatment room in August 2008, has a wealth of playing experience from his days as a midfielder for Hereford, Yeovil, Forest Green and Woking, and Robins boss Yates admits he tried to get Pitman on board when he was managed Kidderminster between 2006 and 2009. "Physios becoming managers seems to be the vogue at the moment with Jamie, Les Parry and Nigel Adkins so I might have to keep an eye on Ian Weston just in case he wants my job," joked Yates on Town`s official website. "I tried to sign Jamie when I was at Kidderminster and he really does know his football. He has Hereford at heart and I think that will benefit them in the long-term. "Hereford have been on a good run of form since Jamie took over and they are scoring goals as well as keeping clean sheets. It`s going to be a really tough test on Saturday because it`s a local derby and I hope our supporters come down in numbers to back the boys."
