Yates upbeat despite defeat

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates admitted Plymouth were worthy winners in their Johnstone`s Paint Trophy tie, but praised his players for "giving it a go". Opposite number Peter Reid hailed his Argyle side for producing "some of their best football of the season" as strikes from Steven MacLean and Craig Noone either side of half-time proved the difference to clinch a 2-0 victory for the visitors. And Yates said: "We were beaten by a better team, it was as simple as that. I have no complaints because my players gave it a go. "The goals killed us - they were at poor times for us. I thought we played quite well for the first 10 minutes. We came out in the second half and we needed to snap into a few tackles. "I want us to play attractive football but I want us to be competitive as well and I think we showed them a little bit too much respect. As a result, they have done a good professional job on us and ran out winners. "I can't remember us making too many challenges and we gave them too much time and space to play. You have to let them know you are there sometimes and I thought we made it a little bit too easy for them. It`s a good learning curve for everybody and there were some good performances as well."
