Yates defends Pack acquisition

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates has played down suggestions that his squad is overloaded with midfielders after bringing in Marlon Pack from Portsmouth. The 19-year-old arrived as a last-minute deal on transfer deadline day and Yates is convinced the competition for places will benefit his side. "The more options the better and it's only for the good of the squad," Yates told the Gloucester Citizen. "Marlon is not costing a fortune and he will add real quality so I am delighted that he has joined. "Players need competition and Marlon wants to play regular football so it can only be of benefit to us." Yates added: "I saw Marlon last season and he is a big, strong lad, who likes to play on the front foot. He can head it, pass it and play any role we ask of him in midfield. He is a good footballer, but he can also dig in so it's a big boost for us."
