Ellison to the rescue for Shrimps

Substitute Kevin Ellison was Morecambe's hero as his stoppage-time strike downed Cheltenham 2-1 and secured a third successive away victory in the space of a week.

Jeff Goulding's late strike looked to have rescued a deserved point for Cheltenham, cancelling out Nick Fenton's opener, but the big midfielder won it at the death for the visitors, striding through and finding the bottom corner with a lovely finish.

It comes after Jim Bentley`s side followed up last Tuesday`s impressive Carling Cup victory at Barnsley with a 3-0 triumph over Hereford at the weekend.

Defender Fenton put Morecambe ahead in the 61st minute after they were forced to soak up heavy pressure from the home side, heading in Izak Reid's cross after Goulding had given away possession near the edge of his own penalty area.

But the recalled forward made amends, receiving a pass from Russ Penn, turning and burying a fine shot past Barry Roche in the 84th minute to earn Cheltenham what appeared to be a point before Ellison`s late impact.

Penn saw a shot deflected against the crossbar in a first half that saw Cheltenham create several golden chances, but well-drilled Morecambe stood firm.

Roche made a fine stop to keep out Marlon Pack's header and Darryl Duffy also saw a low shot deflected wide, but Scott Brown had to be at his best to keep out Phil Jevons' header in the 31st minute.
