Schofield keen to steady the ship

The Robins assistant manager was handed the reins by the club's board of directors on Tuesday after they took the decision to put Martin Allen on gardening leave while they investigate an alleged nightclub incident. The fall-out from the accusations are continuing with Allen describing the allegations as "false and grossly untrue", while Gloucestershire Police are also looking into the matter. But in difficult times, Schofield has vowed to do all he can on the field to make sure results do not suffer. "My job is to ensure the chairman has put the club in a safe pair of hands," he told thisisgloucestershire.co.uk. "I have been put in charge of all footballing matters, in difficult circumstances, but that's what I will endeavour to do to the best of my ability because we want to be sailing in the right direction." He added: "It's a sombre atmosphere at the moment and rightly so, but we have to look forward. The manager has been good to us all and if it wasn't for him, some of us might not be here."
