Robins set for boost from Council

The Robins, who are currently 10 points off safety at the foot of the League One table, avoided going into administration in February after a series of postponed matches limited funds coming through the turnstiles and outgoings reached an unmanageable high. Every single member of Martin Allen's playing squad was made available for transfer and a number of cuts were made behind the scenes, and since then, the cash-strapped club have been eased by the departures of Alex Russell, Lloyd Owusu, Ian Westlake and Ashley Vincent. But now the local authority may step in and help out the club further through an injection of cash, with a full council meeting planned for March 30 to discuss the matter. Chief executive of Cheltenham Borough Council Andrew North said on The Gloucestershire Echo: "I have been given the authority to make a decision one way or the other on the loan but only after a meeting of the full council - a vote - on March 30." Meanwhile, after the news earlier on Thursday that Westlake and Vincent had switched to Oldham and Colchester respectively, speculation has surfaced linking Damian Spencer with a move to League Two leaders Brentford.
