Robins receive welcome cash boost

The League Two outfit came close to administration back in February after a series of home games were postponed due to the bad weather, forcing manager Martin Allen to free up a number of players in a bid to ease the burden on the club's bank balance. Cheltenham applied for a £100,000 loan from the borough council and although the funds were granted, the agreement was never sealed as the Robins' situation stabilised and they were left to consider their options. And chairman Paul Baker has revealed the club have now bolstered their position via a new backer. He told BBC Gloucestershire: "We've been able to borrow some money from another source. It's interest free, and from a non-board member. It's fantastic, and we haven't needed to go to the council." Speaking about the council loan, he added: "That's in the past now and we want to move forward. It was a sensible proposition but the information they wanted would have taken weeks to compile. I got to a stage where I couldn't be bothered."
