The former Jamaica international scored four goals in 12 appearances for the Robins. Now a free agent after his release by Leicester, Hayles has joined the Robins for pre-season and Allen would be delighted to secure the signature of the 37-year old. "If we can get Barry Hayles in, it will be a tremendous signing," he told The Gloucestershire Echo. "He has undoubted quality, he will score goals and there is no doubt in my mind that if we'd had him last season we would have stayed up. "I am very keen to sort out a deal because he would make a massive difference if we can keep him fit."
