Mixed emotions for Yates as Robins hold Gills

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates was extremely pleased with his side`s performance in their 1-1 draw at Gillingham but was left naturally disappointed not to come away with all three points. Debutant Westley Thomas gave the Robins the lead when he latched onto a long goal kick to find the net, but Adebayo Akinfenwa headed home Jack Payne`s throw-in in the 76th minute to level matters. "The lads were great as this is a tough place to come - they're my favourites for promotion this year," said Yates. "I had eight new players playing for me, two making their league debuts, and they're all disappointed they haven't won the game. "We went ahead and we're obviously disappointed not to have hung on for the win, but their crowd spurred them on till the end. "I'm delighted with their application and we're only going to get better this year. "This is my team now, I inherited the boys last year and we did enough to stay up. But last season was last season, and we're aiming for a mid-table finish, but I'm going to make sure we do it by getting the ball down and playing attractive football."
