Low downs Silkmen

Classy Cheltenham extended their unbeaten run to six games as they snuffed out Macclesfield's first-half threat with two clinical strikes in a 2-0 win. Macclesfield were lining up to score in the opening stages with Robins goalkeeper Scott Brown clawing wide a Paul Bolland header before Tyrone Barnett headed over the bar from close range. Macc were made to pay when veteran Josh Low sprang the offside trap to beat Jose Veiga from 15 yards. The home side should have equalised but Barnett could only get his shoulder to a free header from four yards out with a glaring chance going horribly wide. On 32 minutes the visitors extended their lead as Brian Smikle hooked home a Danny Andrew free-kick from 15 yards. Before the break Ross Draper blazed over the bar for Macclesfield but that was their last telling chance. In the second half Cheltenham sat back and soaked up the pressure posing a threat on the counter. Jeff Goulding skewed wide before Veiga performed heroics to tip a Low bullet inches round the post.
