14 November 2010 00:12
Bulls and Robins battle to derby draw Cheltenham fought back to claim a 1-1 draw against local rivals Hereford at Edgar Street. Frenchman Mathieu Manset put the Bulls in front on the stroke of half-time but Jeff Goulding levelled for the Robins midway through the second half. Cheltenham goalkeeper Scott Brown came to the Robins' rescue twice in the opening minutes when he saved a shot from Kenny Lunt and a free-kick from Rob Purdie. Joe Colbeck also missed a gilt-edged chance to put Hereford in front in the 14th minute when he fired wide of goal with only Brown to beat. The Town stopper came under pressure again in the 25th minute when he punched a deep free-kick from Lunt away to safety before Cheltenham's David Bird shot wide in the Robins' first attack. Brian Smikle also had a half-chance for Cheltenham but his shot was stopped on the line by United keeper Adam Bartlett. Hereford broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time when Manset headed across from Purdie into the net from close range. Yet Cheltenham levelled in the 65th minute when Goulding turned a cross from Smikle past Bartlett from eight yards. In the closing stages, Marlon Pack cleared the Hereford crossbar with a powerful drive from 40 yards, while at the other end Brown dived full length to stop an on-target shot from Colbeck.
