New signing Steve Elliott is confident he can use his experience to help Cheltenham achieve promotion this season after completing his free transfer to Whaddon Road. The former Bristol Rovers defender admitted it had been difficult to leave the south west but is looking forward to a new challenge with the Robins. "There were a few options available to me but I spoke to my family before making any decision. I'm obviously quite settled because I have been in Bristol for a number of years and luckily Mark [Mark Yates] offered me the chance to come down and train for the week," he told the club's official website. "The club didn't have the greatest of seasons last year but Mark is putting together a young and athletic squad. "I feel I can come into this squad and help by providing the leadership and experience we need. Hopefully the good work will continue to progress throughout pre-season and into the league season so we can pick up some good results. "I'm a big lad and I hope the younger lads will look up to me. I've got experience and I've done a lot of miles so I hope I can use that to help the younger lads improve their games and improve the team as a whole."
