The centre-back, 27, has progressed through the ranks at the Gloucestershire outfit, with the 2009/10 campaign his 10th as a professional at the Abbey Business Stadium. Duff struggled with injury last term and missed four-and-a-half months of the season, even being put up for loan in April. But he battled back to prove his worth and Allen has opted for him to lead the Robins this time around. Several players were initially shortlisted for the role, but Duff will now replace outgoing club captain John Finnigan who had his contract cancelled by mutual consent earlier this week before signing at deal with Kidderminster. Allen told the club's official website: "There were five or six players under consideration but I made the decision after the trip to the army camp last week. We spoke to the army people to see which players they thought had leadership qualities and Shane was one of those players. "I have not named a vice-captain, so if for any reason Shane is not playing, I will chose another captain."
