Cheltenham put in lacklustre performance

Ryan Lowe inspired Bury to their third win of the season with a sparkling display in a 2-0 victory against a lacklustre Cheltenham. The striker fired the Shakers in front from the penalty spot after 11 minutes when Steve Elliott's tug on Efe Sodje was spotted by the eagle-eyed linesman. The visitors created a succession of chances but did not make the game safe until five minutes from time when Michael Jones drilled a low shot past Scott Brown. Cheltenham came closest to an equaliser just after the interval when Elliott had a header from a corner cleared off the line by Steve Schumacher. It was a rare attacking moment for the Robins who spent most of the match on the backfoot with Lowe a constant threat. The striker should have notched his seventh goal of the season after 52 minutes when Brown parried Andy Bishop's angled shot into his path but he skewed his effort wide with the goal gaping. Lowe also dragged a shot wide while Schumacher nearly caught Brown out with a 40-yard free-kick which the Robins' keeper was forced to tip over the bar.
