Cheltenham's players have issued a public statement to the club`s fans apologising for their display in Saturday`s 8-1 mauling at Crewe. The Gresty Road hammering was Town's heaviest league defeat since 1992 and, following a meeting on Monday morning, Cheltenham`s players have decided to pay for a double-decker coach enabling supporters to travel to the forthcoming clash at Lincoln on Monday April 25 for free. The statement on Town`s official website read: "Following the result and performance against Crewe last weekend, we the players could not let the week pass without making some sort of public comment. "As a group on Monday morning we held a meeting and decided by way of an apology for the performance on Saturday we would like to pay for the cost of the supporters coach to Lincoln on April 25. "We understand and appreciate the effort, cost and commitment involved in being a supporter of Cheltenham Town Football Club and are grateful for the commitment you all make every week. We also understand on Saturday we let you all down and for that we apologise unreservedly. "Thank you for your continued support and we will do everything we can to achieve much better results and performances in the remaining games of the season."
