Buckle takes point from Robins bow
There was to be no winning start for new Cheltenham manager Paul Buckle as the mid-table tussle against Oxford ended 1-1.
But it would have been much worse for the former Torquay, Luton and Bristol Rovers boss had it not been for Trevor Carson in the Robins goal who pulled off a number of excellent saves.
On 16 minutes Tyrone Barnett latched onto a Danny Hylton pass only for Carson to deny him with a fine save.
Joe Riley then curled a 20-yard free-kick against the Cheltenham crossbar before Carson did well to keep out a low Alfie Potter effort with his legs.
It was Cheltenham who broke the deadlock on 52 minutes, a fierce first-time effort from Byron Harrison to convert Jack Deaman's low cross from the right.
But the visitors levelled on 61 minutes when Barnett latched onto a loose ball before steering his shot between Carson's legs.
The keeper then took centre stage as a string of further fine saves denied Hylton, Riley and Callum O'Dowda.
