Zebroski returns to haunt Robins

Chris Zebroski returned to haunt former club Cheltenham with the only goal as Newport continued their surge towards the top of the League Two table.

Cheltenham were inches away from opening the scoring in the third minute when Terry Gornell's shot hit the inside of the right post.

Ex-Robins loanee Shaun Jeffers fired over the bar after a mistake from Jack Deaman, but Newport took the lead in the 11th minute.

Zebroski was allowed to turn on the edge of the box after receiving Adam Chapman's pass and his shot nestled in the bottom-right corner.

Omari Sterling-James fired over as Cheltenham responded well and Gornell was denied by Jamie Stephens after battling his way through on goal in the 20th minute.

Sterling-James set up Kane Ferdinand in first half stoppage time, but he could not get his shot away and Newport remained ahead at the break.

Ismail Yakubu's header was nodded off the line by Matt Richards in the 56th minute as Newport nearly made it 2-0, but one goal was enough.
