Boss takes captaincy to new level
Training instructors will compile character profiles on the squad at Blandford Camp in Dorset between July 22 and 26 and Allen will then decide who to hand the armband to before the opening game at home to Grimsby on August 8.
"We will get character references on all our players to see what they are like in difficult situations, what they are like dealing with stress, strain, tiredness and how they cope," Allen said.
"Of course I have people in mind, but I will be interested to see what the Army think of the characters and personalities we have got."
Allen recently placed long-serving former captain John Finnigan on the transfer list and has ruled out giving most experienced player Drissa Diallo the captaincy, instead claiming that he is looking for a younger leader.
Shane Duff, David Bird, Andy Gallinagh and Michael Townsend are all believed to be in contention to lead the Robins in their new League Two campaign.
