David Bird on Saturday became Cheltenham`s record appearance holder in the Football League when he lined up in the 1-0 win over Northampton at Whaddon Road. The midfielder turned out for the 259th time to overtake former Robins player and current Under-16s coach Jamie Victory who had previously held the record with 258 appearances. Bird, a product of Cheltenham`s centre of excellence, joined the club at the age of 17 and went on to make his debut in February 2003. "I haven`t been here for nine years for no reason," the 25-year-old told the club`s official website. "I have been here because I want to be playing for this football team and I care a lot about this club. "There have been quite a few stand-out moments for me during the last nine years. "The big games like Newcastle and the play-off games were big occasions but it was a big achievement for me when I played the whole of the 2007/08 season."
