Allen 'can't bash kids' after defeat

Allen admitted injuries had taken their toll with Sam Ridley pulling out in the warm-up and captain Michael Townsend withdrawn with a back strain after just 30 minutes. "We had some good opportunities in the first half but then we struggled defending set-pieces and were not winning headers and it was just a matter of time (until Accrington scored)," said Allen. "Injuries don't help, and it's to key players, and then it's hard when you are playing players out of position and it does take its toll. "You can't bash kids as they are only young and they did have a go. If it had been our usual 14 and we had lost 4-0 then obviously we would have been a lot more disappointed. "You know when you come to places like Accrington you have got to be physically strong and to ask kids to do those jobs is tough."
